Sofía Inés Romero, born in Monterrey and a resident of Austin for sixty years, passed away peacefully. She taught English as a Second Language at the community college from 1972 until her retirement in 2010, helping thousands of newcomers find their footing. She is remembered for her sharp wit, her kitchen always open to neighbors, and her conviction that languages were doorways, not walls.
Family
She is survived by her three children, Diego, Pilar, and Andrés, and seven grandchildren.
